The mission of the Soccer Association of Columbia / Howard County is to provide boys and girls from age 3 to 19 with both instructional and competitive youth soccer opportunities that will build character, enhance community, and promote an appreciation of the game of soccer. The vision also emphasizes the core values of self-esteem, confidence, teamwork and respect along with support for the inherent benefits that physical exercise brings.

Coaching Education is of the utmost importance to our organization. SAC strives to provide all of its coaches with the resources and training necessary to help its players develop and grow. For the SAC Juniors programs, specifically, all of our coaches are provided with an age-specific curriculum with age-appropriate goals in mind. SAC is one of the largest, oldest and most respected soccer clubs in Maryland and we offer our experience and expertise to all of our coaches.

The Soccer Association of Columbia can be found in Ellicott City at the Bob Lucido Fields at Covenant Park. Our privately-owned facility is home to eight of the best fields in the state; five synthetic turf and three grass. In addition to Covenant Park, SAC Juniors programs permit the use of local Howard County Elementary School fields for the Fall and Spring seasons as well as local indoor facilities for our Winter Tots and Technical Training classes.

At the youngest age groups, we begin to develop individual basic motor functions. We use fun, age-appropriate soccer activities that emphasize movements to enhance each player’s agility, balance and coordination.

As players begin to master their coordination, we introduce more complex and challenging activities to build their focus and concentration. Positive reinforcement, encouragement and communication are key aspects of all our programs.

As focus improves, we begin to build the players’ soccer skills by working more on ball control and technique. The goal is to become comfortable in possession. Our small team/group sizes allow each player to receive more individual instruction.

As players become more comfortable with the ball, they are ready to learn the social skills needed to be a good teammate.  Junior Academy players are taught communication, sportsmanship and how to work together as a unit.
